Preface
Hooked For Life
The first time I went fishing was when I was about 4 1/2 years old. My Uncle Bob bought me a kiddie fishing pole. You know the kind, a steel rod, a plastic hook, and 3 plastic fish. A plastic baitcast style reel, spooled with twine, about 6 feet worth.
One day, he picked me up, and took me to Verona Park Lake. Right down the street from my house. We set up under an old willow tree, next to a foot bridge where a storm drain emptied into the lake. He cut off the plastic hook that came with my rod, and tied on an Eagle Claw #6 bronze baitholder hook. He clipped on a small bobber, baited my hook with a small dough ball that he made earlier, and I was ready to go.
I don't know how long we were there, but it
didn't feel like long enough. I remember catching small sunfish one after the
other. I never wanted to leave. I was hooked on fishing for life.
